Eight years of investigations have revealed the high incidence of cancer

The mortality rate in areas with high incidence of cancer is only 3 to 4 per thousand, far lower than the national average of about 6 per thousand. "There is no local investigation into the specific causes of the high mortality rate."

The pollution mainly comes from the "three wastes" (waste water, waste gas and solid waste) discharged by enterprises. The worst periods of water pollution were 1996 ~1997, 2001 ~2002 and 2004 ~2005.
